Why Paris Is The Best Place To Visit In 2024

Paris is a city that’s well known for its culture. With stunning architecture, delectable cuisine, and expressive art within its borders, you won’t be bored with what Paris has to offer. Even seasoned Parisian tourists can find something new to enjoy each time they visit the city.

Paris is a common tourist destination, but why is Paris the best place to visit in 2024?

In 2024, Paris will be bursting with life, thanks to the Summer Olympics. The Games will start on the 26th of July and continue until the 11th of August.

According to Amadeus, flight searches to France for this period have increased by 25% compared to the same time last year. Events like the Olympics emphasize what makes places like Paris unique, so the city is likely to see interest after the Games, throughout the year.

There are many great things to do in Paris, some of which are unique to 2024 alone!

If you’re visiting this year, you’ll find out why Paris is the best place to visit from this post. We’ll include some great things to do in Paris to keep you and your loved ones entertained during your stay.

1. Maison Gainsbourg

Maison Gainsbourg, a museum dedicated to the late Serge Gainsbourg’s life, lies on Rue de Verneuil in Paris. Having opened recently in October 2023, the site is one of Paris’ newest attractions, making it a must-see in 2024.

Serge Gainsbourg was a notorious topic of debate within French pop culture. The singer and actor lived in his home on Rue de Verneuil for 22 years until he passed away in 1991.

The museum covers two locations. The first is the artist’s home, where his artefacts have been preserved for general viewing. The second is a museum across the road which covers Gainsbourg’s life history.

Run by Serge Gainsbourg’s daughter, the museum expects to receive around 100,000 visitors each year. Tickets run out fast, but if you can get your hands on them, Maison Gainsbourg is worth a visit!

2. The Olympic Games

If you’re visiting Paris in 2024, you can’t miss the celebrations around the 2024 Olympic Games. While some lucky ones may have tickets, you don’t need them to enjoy the festivities!

You might not believe it, but a lot of Olympic events within the Seine or on the streets are free to watch! This includes road cycling, the marathon, and the triathlon.

The triathlon stands on the Champs Elysees and the Pont Alexandre III bridge are ticketed, but visitors can cheer the athletes along the rest of the route. All road cycling events are also free for spectators, including the men’s route, women’s route, and time trial.

The Games marathon is set for the 10th and the 11th of August 2024. The circular route runs from Paris to Versailles, starting from Paris City Hall and ending on the Esplanade des Invalides. Marathon spectators can stand across the route and support the runners for free.

Additionally, from the beginning of summer, 25 Olympic celebration fan zones are set to launch in Paris, while roughly 30 fan zones will be set up in the Ile de France region. This gives visitors a way to take part in Olympic celebrations, outside of the gyms and stadiums themselves.

The Olympic Games are set between the 26th of July and the 11th of August 2024. There are lots of ways to take part in the celebrations and make the most of your Parisian trip this year!

3. The New Paris Metro Line

The Olympic and Paralympic games may be in the spotlight, but thanks to the Games, infrastructure projects, like the Paris Metro, have gone under rapid development

Formally known as the Grand Paris Express, the metro will grow to include 68 new stations, four additional underground lines, and an extra 120 miles of tracks all over the city.

The aim is to make it easier for further Paris suburbs to get to the city by connecting business areas, districts, and communities. The metro is expected to transport 2 million people each day by 2030, making a large move towards environmentally friendly public transportation.

The new Paris metro line will make it even easier to enjoy some of the city’s many attractions, so it’s clear why Paris is the best place to visit this year!

The metro will have lots of stations in and around Paris, but if you’re struggling to think of where to visit during your trip, booking a private tour can make this easier.

4. Quai de la Photo

Paris has always been a great city for art lovers, thanks to its many galleries and exhibitions. Quai de la Photo is a new example that shows why Paris is the best place to visit!

Having opened in the summer of 2023, the new art centre floats on top of the Seine River and is only increasing in popularity. The space showcases modern photography and has several free exhibitions to view.

The art space opens its summer terrace doors between May and October, making it a great attraction spot during summer. The centre also has activities to keep you entertained throughout the year. You can visit the marina to take a boat cruise across the Seine River, take part in book signings and workshops, or relax at the bar well-stocked with cocktail ingredients.

5. The Reopening of The Notre Dame Cathedral

If your Parisian trip is scheduled for the end of this year, you can’t miss the reopening of Notre Dame! The iconic cathedral experienced lots of damage after a fire struck in April 2019. The cathedral’s upper portion fell in, wrecking its notable spire.

Fortunately, the cathedral is set to reopen, following a major restoration project lasting five years. Skilled carpenters from all around the world worked on rebuilding the cathedral identically, using traditional techniques to give the landmark its former ancestral feel.

President Macron announced that Notre Dame will reopen for public viewing on the 8th of December, 2024. Reopening celebrations will carry into the following year, until the 8th of June, 2025.

The Notre Dame Cathedral was always a popular visitor attraction before the fire, so make sure you add the reopening to the end of your Paris tour
